SayShade Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 July 2026
The short version
SayShade has no telemetry and no analytics. We do not track how you use the app, and we have no account system. The app talks to our servers only to activate and check your license, and to look for updates. Nothing else leaves your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
- Your settings and profiles are stored locally in your user library.
- Your location, if you enable the sunrise/sunset schedule, is read from macOS and used only on your Mac to compute sun times. It is never transmitted.
- Ambient light readings never leave the sensor pipeline on your Mac.
License activation and checks
To enforce your license fairly (2 Macs on a standard license, 5 on a Family Pack), the app registers each Mac with our license server at licenses.42ne.co.uk when you activate, and checks in periodically afterwards. Those requests send only:
- your license key and a hardware identifier for the Mac (so we can count and manage devices),
- a friendly Mac name (so you recognise your devices in the list).
You can see and manage your Macs, and free a seat when you switch machine, from inside the app or at licenses.42ne.co.uk. If your Mac is offline, the app keeps working on your existing activation. We do not log your usage, only which devices hold a seat.
Updates
The version of SayShade sold on our website checks for updates against 42ne.co.uk. The request contains no personal data and can be turned off in Settings. The Mac App Store version has no update checker; updates come from the App Store.
Payments
Purchases on our website are processed by our payment provider; we receive your email address only to deliver the license key. Purchases on the Mac App Store are handled entirely by Apple.
